SALAntern is the result of 16 students coming together for a six-month design/build project, completed for Keats Camps on Keats Island, BC.

The project brief called for the demolition and replacement of a dilapidated boat storage facility adjacent to the public dock on Keats Island. Additionally, the project was to serve as a beacon to visitors and campers alike as they arrive on Keats Island. The resulting form takes inspiration from boat building techniques, with an exaggerated bent timber roof that recalls the hull of a ship, and polycarbonate cladding that casts a lantern-like glow over the beach.

The design portion was undertaken from January - April 2023, while building took place over six weeks from May - June. Personal contributions included design detailing, construction and fabrication drawings, on-site and in-shop construction and fabrication, metal work, and construction site-maintenance.
